Mystery 65 Reframe Eleusis [2023]

"Reframe Eleusis" is a collaborative photographic project organized by the Hellenic Centre of Photography as part of Eleusis European Capital of Culture’s Mystery 65. This collective social action, with artistic, educational, and research dimensions, invited young people from Elefsina and the wider Attica region to participate in an educational program focused on photography and visual culture. The project aimed to create original photographic works in the form of a photo zine that captured and interpreted the visual anthropology of Elefsina, mapping its natural and cultural environment while highlighting its unique identity and physiognomy.

The photozine is expected to be published in fall 2024.

2023 Eleusis Cultural Capital of Europe

For four months, I embarked on weekly visits to Elefsina, a place that had long existed in my mind as an inaccessible and harsh figure. These wanderings through the city were both surprising and affirming, perhaps validating the instinct that drew me there. Through the lens of my camera, Elefsina gradually revealed itself as a living, breathing mosaic—a place where the threads of antiquity, modern industry, and the sea intertwine, creating an enigma for anyone who seeks to narrate it visually.

Amidst the raw power of the natural landscape, the clatter of machinery, and the mystical aura of ancient rituals, I sought to capture the complex elements that define the modern identity of Elefsina. This process evolved into more than just documentation; it became a personal initiation into the power of visual storytelling, reshaping my relationship with the city and deepening my understanding of its many layers. Elefsina, once an inaccessible and harsh figure, has become a familiar and beloved place. My photographic approach, too, has evolved, marking a significant transformation in my journey as a photographer.
